Raise a Flag and Enjoy the Weekend: Happy Victoria Day

Victoria Day is one of those long weekends Canadians genuinely look forward to. The unofficial start of summer, the first real taste of warm weather, and a well-earned break for hardworking Ontarians across the province. At MTS Paralegal Services P.C., this weekend is a reminder to slow down, enjoy the people around you, and take a breath before the busy summer season begins.

To every client, colleague, and community member across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Hamilton, Windsor, Leamington, and Chatham, the firm extends its warmest wishes for a safe and joyful long weekend.

A Brief Look at the Holiday

Victoria Day is observed on the last Monday before or on May 25th each year, honouring Queen Victoria, whose reign shaped much of Canada’s legal and institutional foundations. It is a federal statutory holiday observed across the country, and Ontario courts and government offices will be closed on Monday, May 19, 2026.

For anyone with upcoming court dates or legal deadlines, it is always good practice to confirm any scheduled appearances or filing timelines with your representative ahead of the holiday.

Drive Safely This Long Weekend

Long weekends in Ontario historically see increased traffic enforcement activity across provincial highways and local roads. Police services across the province typically run dedicated road safety campaigns during holiday weekends, and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act remains in full effect whether it is a holiday or not.

If you receive a traffic ticket over the long weekend, do not simply pay it without understanding the implications. Paying a ticket is an admission of guilt and can affect your insurance rates and driving record. Speaking with a licensed paralegal before making any decisions is always the smarter move.

Legal Matters Do Not Take the Weekend Off

While the office observes the Victoria Day holiday, MTS Paralegal Services P.C. will be back in full operation on Tuesday, May 20, 2026. Timothy Ellis and the team are ready to assist with Small Claims Court matters, Landlord and Tenant Board applications, traffic ticket defence, and more.

Whether a legal matter has been on the back burner or something new has come up, the firm welcomes inquiries and consultations when the office reopens. Reaching out is easy through the contact page or by calling (226) 444-4882.

From the desk of Timothy Ellis and the entire team at MTS Paralegal Services P.C., have a wonderful Victoria Day long weekend. Stay safe, enjoy the fireworks, and raise a flag for the great province of Ontario.
